Boston is without doubt the center for shopping in New England and the numerous districts provide a shopper's paradise. Whether you are looking for fashion, antiques, furniture, jewelry or home accessories, rest assured that Boston will provide you with a huge choice.

Most shops are open seven days a week and public transport is never far away, so shopping in different areas is both quick and easy, although most are within walking distance of each other.

Newbury Street

This tree-lined shopping street is full of expensive boutiques, funky salons and fashionable galleries, with many outdoor cafés providing ideal places to take a break and watch the world go by. This is definitely the trendiest, classiest and most elegant shopping street in New England. Once making up an exclusive residential street in Back Bay, the Brownestone houses are now home to Brooks Brothers, Cartier, Burberry's and a host of other fine stores, including Louis, which is the most chic men's store in town.

Newbury Street has more art galleries than any other stretch of road in America, but most of them are on upper floors, so you will need to look up. Sidewalk cafés are interspersed with the elegant shops, giving the street a European flavor. Newbury Street ends with a gigantic Tower Records store, containing music from all over the world. The Massachusetts Avenue end becomes a little more fun and includes quirky comic shops. Newbury Street is just one block away from Arlington Street and Copley.

Boylston Street

Boylston street has a wide range of stores and restaurants. Nearby is Firestone and Parson, one of the city's finest jewelry stores and around the corner is Shreve, Crump and Low, a favorite old New England jewelry store which also sells antique silver and porcelain. A must is FAO Schwartz, which has three floors of outrageous toys, including children's cars that are more expensive that some full-size production models. Hermes is a similarly extravagant adult version of this shop.

Copley Place

This large, indoor shopping mall is full of every kind of shop and is situated at the corner of Copley Square, in Back Bay. Home to over 100 of the most elegant and expensive stores in Boston, this glitzy shopping mall also has a nine-screen cinema and several great restaurants. The main stores are Nieman Marcus, Tiffany, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Bally of Switzerland.

Charles Street

From the corner of Boston Common and the Public Garden to Cambridge Street, Charles Street is a paradise for both antique and bargain hunters. Many dozens of small shops can be found in basements, on 2nd floors and down alleys, all offering an eclectic range of old things including genuine fine antiques and other interesting memorabilia.

Downtown Crossing

Located in the heart of the central shopping district, with main department stores including Filene's and of course, Macy's, the biggest department store in New England. There are also several jewelry stores nearby in this pedestrian zone.
