The tenth-largest city in America, Boston is known, correctly, as the city of neighborhoods. It is a conglomeration of many distinct parts, all of which co-exist happily, but maintain their own distinct personality - and property price level.

The North End is close to downtown and is the home of the city's large Italian population. The Back Bay is west of the Public Garden and steeped in old money, opulent houses and apartments. Beacon Hill, nearby, is another of Boston's more upscale residential neighborhoods while across town in Charlestown is a growing centre of younger families and associated residential zoning.


The tiny enclave of Bay Village is popular with artists, as is the dynamic South End, which is the alternative capital of Boston and popular with university students and musicians. In general, property prices in the south of Boston are up to a third less than the average price for an equivalent property on the north side of town.

A great many businesses host conferences in nearby New York, but the plethora of universities and colleges in Boston means that the need for serviced apartments is still strong here. Quaint and older style serviced apartments are the norm though more modern digs are plentiful too.

The price for a serviced apartment in Boston is the same, roughly, as the weekly rental on a similar property. Generic increases to cover staffing and administrative costs should be expected, and a deposit of around one week's rental is required prior to booking.

Buying Apartments and Houses

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States and many homes here have been owned by the same family for generations. There is substantial new development around the Charles River and the apartments of South End are known for their at-least annual turnover of tenants.

Property to buy in Boston is available to anyone non-nationals though down payments are typically higher. Regards the rental market, all number of international university students arrive here and find no trouble in securing a rental, particularly around Cambridge, regardless of nationality.
